Hello, I am Natalie, a very beginner at chanting. I am 52, “cradle Orthodox” from Greece living in the US for 12 years, and I consciously came to the Faith at around age 30. I never in my life imagined I would do anything close to chanting, I always felt uncomfortable singing in any setting. I have a been a catechist for about 10 years, also creator of catechesis content for young kids, so at some point I asked our chanter to teach me some basics that I could teach in class. He said, “why don’t you come to the psalter to do the ison for me?” I felt extremely uncomfortable but he insisted – so I went last Lent, and I still can’t believe the way it feels. That’s how Trisagion came about, I took ByzB 101 last spring, now ByzB 102, as I would like to gain some knowledge and foundation on the subject. Our parish is almost 100% Greek, all chanting is only in Greek, but I am still here as I greatly enjoy the way the classes are organized and taught. However, I would like to have access to the Greek versions of the used texts and I was wondering if there are links for those. Thank you and a happy term to all.
Hi Natalie! Yes, what Paul shared is really useful and I use it all the time. There are also a ton of Greek liturgical books available as pdfs on Google Books. I’ll try to compile a list so you can access those if you’d like.
