ByzB 101: Parallagi, Scales and Basic Vocal Training – Term 3 2025

Students will study two hymns and learn to chant them on the text of the hymn and on parallagi (solfège). Students will learn about the different modes and scales in Byzantine chant and study the intervals of the Diatonic and Hard Chromatic scales. They will also study the basics of good vocal technique.  Students should plan to come to at least one half hour regular practice session and one half hour Voice Lab 100 session each week.  Voice Lab 100 includes two sessions devoted to the beginner vocal health topics found in ByzB 101 and two sessions devoted to more advanced topics (topic schedule is in the class).

Prerequisite(s): None.

Materials: ByzB Starter Set from the Trisagion School store (enrollees receive 25% off-find the access code in the Introduction to the course)
