It’s simple, but still sounds grand.

2nd— He’s using more ornate ornamentation, following the exact notes less closely, which he can do since he’s chanting solo.

This one has more of an obvious, distinct, punching pulse. I think the beat is more emphasized and distinct because the ison is also chanting words.
