Hello!
I recorded the Week 3 assignment/206 capstone project in a lower range than the recording that Father John El Massih did. Pa is pitched at A3. I’ve added the recording to the Week 3 homework lesson right below Fr. John’s recording. I’ll likely also add it to my Youtube channel as well.In Christ,
AmyHi Angela,
The interesting thing about the ajem is that it is technically only a localized symbol—meaning that it only affects one of the tetrachords. If it’s on a ga, the vou is a half step from ga, if it’s on zo, the zo is flat (when ascending and descending), if it’s on high vou’, it is a half step from pa’. Outside of the notes that it’s actually on we should assume Diatonic intervals. Since the ajem is on ga in the modal signature that still leaves the zo as kind of a loose canon (Diatonic Zo is very unstable). 🙂 If the melody goes to zo’ and the descends to thi again the Zo’ is flat. Does that make sense?~Amy
I was in Salt Lake City in 2019 but didn’t get to visit any churches. Your church is so cute and old. Am I reading the plaque on Google correctly, and that it was originally a synagogue? I see photos of a second iconostasis. Do you have a chapel in the basement? Cool baptism font too, btw.

Hi Silouan,
You go to church with Susanna Howder and Judy Rose-Smith, correct? I’m not sure I put that together before now.~Amy
Hi Joanna,
You went to St. Nektarios in Charlotte this past weekend, correct? Did you chant with the left choir? Dina and I were chatting yesterday and realized we used the same communion hymn on Sunday morning. lolHi Angela,
So, you must know Niki P? Your church is so beautiful. Are you going to come to the St. George workshop at the end of the month?! You are so close! I’d love to get to chant with you in person but know that traveling can be hard or impossible sometimes due to health reasons.
~AmyI’m really excited for the St. George workshop! Looking forward to meeting you. 🙂

Thanks Angela!
Yes, that was a typo. I fixed it and also edited it so that hopefully it’s more clear.Apologies. Classes start on the 29th. The header on the Course Catalog page of the website said the 22nd for awhile unfortunately.
