ByzB 101: Parallagi, Scales and Basic Vocal Training – Term 2 2025
Students will study two hymns and learn to chant them on the text of the hymn and on parallagi (solfège). Students will learn about the different modes and scales in Byzantine chant and study the intervals of the Diatonic and Hard Chromatic scales. They will also study the basics of good vocal technique. Students should plan to come to at least one half hour chant practice session and one half hour Voice Lab 100 session each week. 101 students should plan to come to a beginner Voice Lab session but are welcome to come to the advanced sessions as well.
